Frequently asked questions
What does the red oil-pressure warning light mean?
Critical loss of oil pressure — stop and switch off the engine immediately to avoid serious damage. Never keep driving with it lit.
How far must dipped headlights light the road?
Dipped (low) beam must let you see at least 45 m ahead; main (bright) beam at least 100 m. Your hooter must be audible from at least 90 m.
What is the minimum legal tyre tread?
At least 1 mm of tread across the tyre — note this is the South African figure, not the 1.6 mm used in the UK/EU.
